nin.com — Trent Reznor describes how Universal's desperate, potentially devastating lawsuit against YouTube and MySpace has prevented him from launching an innovative new website: "We are challenged at the last second to find a way of bringing this idea to life without getting splashed by the urine as these media companies piss all over each other’s feet."

Funny how creative solidarity gets trampled on if not producing some sort of something for someone who insists on over imposing themselves... Those good ol' folks at Viacom.

I think it's great that Trent's turned NIN.com into a culturally relevant and sharply written blog, but I really don't know how to feel about the blind adoration that his move towards internet relevance has awarded him. I'm a long time NIN fan, though like many I feel I may have grown out of his music to a certain extent - making his writing and activism for artists rights all the more refreshing. Still, it seems to me that idolizing him the way that many of the responses to his posts found on digg and on his blogspot powered soapbox do really takes the wind out of his sails - particularly in that focus is moved from what the man's saying to the man himself, something I'm not sure he'd be comfortable with.

You are all f**ktards.. Nobody would of heard NIN if it wasn't for the record companies funding promotion, mtv airtime, etc. There is nothing impressive about a established artist like Trent or Radiohead, who made millions in the early 90s with heavy record company backing and promotion. If this was some other no name band nobody would give a s**t.

Yes, until anonymity ceases to exist on the Internet and you can be positively identified at all times. Wait for it, it's coming.
