arstechnica.com— Canonical is overhauling Ubuntu's branding identity and visual style. The new look includes an updated palette that replaces Ubuntu's signature brown with orange and aubergine.

I still can't figure out what the big deal is. Mine was only brown and orange for about ten minutes after the installation completed! Went to Blue and Grey almost immediately! Much nicer looking and easier on the eyes! Though I am glad that window buttons are not staying on the left as shown and the bottom bar is still there, those two things were worrying!
Funny you would mention this, because the first thing that went through my mind was: "Where's the light?"Light, in my opinion, is not represented by dark colours. (And yes I know, there's also the play of "light" in the context of the new release using less resources).
Absolutely nothing wrong with the font themselves - well, they look great on Ubuntu anyway, not quite as good on Windows. The biggest problem IMO is Ubuntu chooses large chunky fonts as the default for the system. First thing I always do is switch the system fonts to about 2 sizes smaller.
So happy to not see the brown any more. I <3 linux and I really <3 ubuntu but the brown needs to die, I seem to recall an ubuntu variant (CrunchBang maybe?) advertising it as one of their big selling points "It's ubuntu but without all the brown" or something like that.

Deja vu? I could have sworn I already commented on this.... oh wait,-------Oh look at that, it's just as ugly, with the added 'feature' of moving the close buttons to where I haven't used them for 10 years.f**k UBUNTU It's not the distro it used to be....http://digg.com/linux_unix/Ubuntu_gets_a_new_logo_ ...

I didn't know there was a lighter version, all I've seen is the gloomy dark purplish colours, Where's the light?

I'll wait for the LinuxMint version...since they'll probably keep the buttons on the right ;)-C
