anotherubuntu.blogspot.com — Ubuntu 10.04 will be Ubuntu?s third long-term support (LTS) release. With security updates available for five years for servers and three years for desktops, the enhanced stability and longer lifecycle of LTS releases make them appealing to hardware makers and organizations that are rolling out large Ubuntu deployments.

I've been tempted to use fedora because a lot of the scientific software i need are in .rpm format and alien doesn't always work. and I have seen Arch, my roommate uses it, and yeah it was definitely tougher.

I'll be waiting for 10.10 before I give Ubuntu another try.The stupid-simple of OS X and gaming nirvana of Win7 serve me rather well.

However, 1-2 years of hardcore Linux experience are so important for those working in an IT-esque environment. I'm a web designer, and using Linux over the years has been a smart decision. It's always funny to see an OS X-only user shake when you mention the Terminal. :P

Furthermore, I don't like clicking on small areas ( like "less" and "more" in the video the 2nd guy posted). Make it blunt, I say, while making it look good too. The smaller the thing to click on, the more effort/strain it causes for heavy users with deteriorating eyesight and repetitive motion sensitivities.

I know that Linux folk don't take too well to criticism, but I've been using the latest Ubuntu for the past few weeks and I'm really not that impressed. Keep in mind that I've used Linux for over a decade.Things have improved a bit, but not that much, and herein lies the problem.IMNSHO, the pace of development and polish (especially on the GUI) really needs to accelerate if Linux is to avoid being relegated to an also-ran in the book of history. (Gnome, please take note.)We really need to get off our high horse and quit patting ourselves on the back. Yeah, I know no one wants to hear this, but this still needs to be said even though the truth hurts.Windows 7 is shaping up to be the best Windows ever and Mac OS X still remains the gold standard. The question is what will Ubuntu become.
