Two problem I have NVidia:1) I have to do an installation of it everytime a kernel update was done. Why don't I have to do this in Windows? People can say because of this, because of that, well, fix it. It's obviously wrong somewhere.2) NVidia lately 180.x release can't get the XPS M1730 to have the correct WUXGA resolution. It took me a long time to to play with the xorg file. Then I downgrade it to 177.* release and it works. However, I couldn't downgrade it until there was another kernel update. Before the update, I keep getting error while doing it. It has some problem compiling its files.
It's been my experience that it takes about as much time to enter and exit hibernation as it takes to shutdown and startup normally. This is especially true since Ubuntu 9.04 came out, which boots on my laptop in less than 25 seconds. Besides, the system's always left a little unstable after hibernating unless nothing was actually running in the first place, because too many apps get confused by power-saving modes, so what's the point? When I fire it up, I want to know I've got a stable, usable system. That's why I just shut the damn thing off when I'm not using it. I've seen this to be true on both Windows and Linux systems, though I've had much better luck with Linux. I can't speak to how it is on a Mac. So, 10-second boot would make hibernation even less important.
That one of my problems with Linux. Compiling. Its a video card driver!!! You should not have to compile it your self. It should just work.To install a driver in windows you double click, click OK, wait 2 minutes and restart. That's it. No console commands. No compiling the driver. No NEED to tweak some obscure config file. It just works.
Uhm, daily, since the fan noise disturbs my sleep.10 seconds is pretty good, especially if you are about to run out to work, and want to read some news :-)

Correct, you can't compare Heavily Shackled with Open.

RAID 0 or solid state, then.

then a shutdown fap screen would do better for some last second fapping.

Does suspend to solid state drive count?
