linuxtracker.org — Ubuntu Ultimate 1.4 has been released and has a new thing in store for you. Unlike any linux ever released this allows you to "build your os" from a CD. Like linux you will love this... Windows users will think twice... Compiz Fusion integrated.

It's been DoSD-ed (Denial of Service by Digg)!

You would be surprised how many people only know ubuntu and since ubuntu doesn't allow you to select packages at install, they think this is novel.

OK I know I will probably be slain/dugg down for saying this (this is digg after all - and trying to be helpful/informative is generally frowned upon here) - but if you want an Ubuntu distro with all of the missing stuff included (codecs, Mplayer proprietary drivers and so on) Linux Mint is probably an excellent choice. It has (as I said) all of the missing stuff included which generally Canonical leave out due to legal reasons - is binary compatible with Feisty Fawn and even includes Beryl (and Compiz) working straight out of the box. Moreover it is a genuine full blown distribution (and not just a random CD/DVD cobbled together by some lone guy) and is generally much less cluttered than Ubuntu Ultimate too.Anyway as I said, I will probably be killed for suggesting it - but nonetheless it is a worthwhile alternative if you think Ubuntu Ultimate might be a bit too top heavy.

Your answer as well as your diggs tell me you are not the only one getting it wrong. Compiz is still called Compiz, the extra plugins and "opencompositing community" now renamed to Compiz Fusion.

1.4 not bad, liked the theme. Canned the Upgrade and envy, like to install my own manually,"build your own".

Ultimate Edition is growing. With more and more users finding the light, the support infrastructure needs to grow – and it has.We are now up to 2.5 edition with 2.6 just around the corner ( based on Lucid Lynx )There is now a choice of 3 different international forums:http://forumubuntusoftware.info (Ultimate Edition Central)http://www.ultimateeditionoz.com/ (Ultimate Edition Australia/Oz)http://ultimateeditionisrael.freeforums.org/ (Ultimate Edition Israel)All three are focused on just one goal – to make your Ultimate Edition experience the best it can be. Join one or join all three, the choice is yours. For those of you who like to socialise via Facebook:http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=62769201056& ...Ultimate Edition – We've got you covered. :DUltimate Edition is like asking for a romantic kiss with the girl next door and being taken to a month long party at the Playboy Mansion. You ask for a few more applications a few more tweaks to get your Ubuntu running a little more smoothly and you get drowned in so much choice, you probably flounder for breath. This is not necessary good or bad, but I'm sure some people will find the extreme opposite of Ultimate Edition to what the default Ubuntu offers a little frightening. And others will cherish it like rain in the desert. The choice of included programs is simply phenomenal. The programs are selected with care and a good balance is maintained between different categories and different uses, allowing just about anyone a hefty sample of everything. If you're lazy and want everything served on a platter, Ultimate Edition is the right formula for you.The price you will have to pay is the reduced performance, much increased system resource usage and occasional application crashes and incompatibilities, as it seems virtually impossible to orchestra this huge install base without glitches.Overall, Ultimate Edition in an impressive, welcome project. Future versions will offer an even better, more streamlined integration of applications into the distro and seek to reduce the system resource consumption as much as possible. For the time being, enjoy your new toy.
