The trouble lies in what consumers are willing to give away for convenience. It's just easier to let someone else do for us what we could probably do more easily and cheaply do for ourselves. It is something like giving up a healthy home cooked meal for fast food. In this case instead of sucking up fat and empty calories it is giving away freedom to use your data exactly as you wish, A little exercise might remove a pound or two around the middle after a fast food binge but once your data is stored somewhere else you can't as easily regain control of it. The convenience compromise is central to consumers and product sellers. Wherever there is a gap to be filled there is the potential for profit and breach of trust. Richard Stallman's warnings of about technology are always prescient. I hope he will offer some insight on privacy and government data mining.
