ubuntuforums.org — Linux fans like myself will be more excited to learn that the new firmware updates to the Intel Macs also allows for the booting of one of the most popular distros with ease! This post includes a picture of a Mini running x86 Ubuntu without the hacking that such an act has taken in the past- from Apple noise to desktop in less than a minute!

Cuz some utilities dont work as well on mac or wont compile on mac. kismet comes to mind (for intel, works ppc).I feel more at home on a linux term than a mac (though very close) but i like the option if i need it.

Yeah, ATI doesn't like linux. I had this problem on a machine not too long ago. It would load, but there would be no GUI, just command line interface. There is a way to get the graphics working on a ATI chip.If you can get to the command line, but no GUI, first try the command: startxthat might work, but usually the simple method never does, so if the startx command fails try:dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorgthis should get you into a setup screen. Just use all the default settings by hitting enter if you don't know what to put. But when you come to a screen that asks what graphics driver to use, do NOT select ATI, select VESA. The GUI should work after that. You might have to type startx again after doing the setup, it should then start.

Because if you are going to buy a Mac anyway, why not be able to boot any OS on it.

I know, I know...I'm up to my eyeballs in loans for medical school and I can't afford to upgrade everything at once, so I started with the computer.

This Mac Mini is not an Intel Mac Mini. Doesn't have the small black spot for the remote.

Seriously, what is the deal? I don't see the great advantages of running ubuntu on a mac, unless you say it's totally about the great hardware. I love linux, but I'll run OS X on a mac any day over linux.

Ok, I can take another picture that shows more of my desk if you would like...

BZZZT. Wrong, wrong, wrong. @usurp: This is the new Intel Mac mini we're talking about, not the PowerPC ones. @ pierre: you've been able to dual boot the PowerPC Macs for a long time. @helfire: Apple's firmware didn't disallow anything, it's that Ubuntu didn't support EFI.Don't comment if you don't know what the hell you're talking about.
