ubuntuforums.org — The Ubuntu team is proud to announce the release of Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS, the first maintenance release of "Dapper Drake". Over 300 post-release updates have been pre-applied, so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded after installation, and a number of bugs in the installation system have been corrected.

It's a shame about openSUSE 10.1. I use the "free" version at home and the retail version at work. In the retail version, if you update during install, everything is hunky dory, the nightmare is trying to fix after bypassing that step. My point however, is that the retail version is a victim of its own success. If you press lots of CDs and print up pretty boxes and manuals to get into the mainstream distribution channels, you're vulnerable to such unfortunate bugs, you can't afford to do a recall. If you're a little distro with a small following you can be more flexible.

I used to run XP, but I replaced it with Dapper and I've never looked back. Ubuntu on a Thinkpad is a great experience. It's clean, fun and easy to use. I'm excited to for the future of Ubuntu. At first I wanted to go back to Windows, but after a week I was hooked. Linux is evolution. There are some things that don't work perfectly on Ubuntu. But the great part about this company is that they'll fix it eventually. They care about the user experience. If it doesn't work very well now it will soon enough...
