news.softpedia.com — Ok how will the end user benefit from this EXT4 filesystem? Well, first of all, the whole system will be much faster and more reliable compared to one with EXT3, it will boot faster (the current article proves that) and it's able to handle files with sizes of up to 16 terabytes (1 TB = 1000 GB).

Btrfs was recently merged to the 2.6.29 kernel, and i expect this fs to be better. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Btrfs http://btrfs.wiki.kernel.org/There are tools to upgrade from ext3/4 to btrfs. All it needs is widespread testing to reach maturity and become stable.

I times mine, and it is 7 min to booted + google loaded. I think it is massive server latency for a bunch of authentication servers.

"But seriously, I think that anyone who's dealing with Ubuntu knows very well what is what when it comes to memory..."How can you believe that when you also champion computer companies for selling Ubuntu to consumers? The two groups are not the same.

Its depends on the laptop and how well it is supported by Linux. For example, my T42 runs for ~4.5 hours in Windows XP Pro and Vista 32-bit, but can barely muster 3 hours in various distributions. (Debian, Ubuntu, and Gentoo.)My T61 can get ~6.5 hours in Vista 64bit, and ~6 hours with Ubuntu 8.10 without doing any tweaking at all.

Your point? Perhaps you don't understand runlevels. That's okay, ignorance isn't a crime. Yet.
