pcmech.com — In a few days Ubuntu 8.10 will be released. For those following Ubuntu news, you already knew about this. But for those that weren’t, now you know. The way in which Ubuntu does releases is some of the smartest I’ve ever seen mainly due to the fact they don’t try to reinvent the wheel each time.

Any OS takes time to configure, even Windows. So don't pretend like there's a Windows advantage there. If Windows took no time to configure, there'd be no reason to have Windows admins.Linux is already well-known for being more stable, less buggy, less prone to malware, and compatible with more and hardware. And, of the 500 fastest computers in the world, Linux runs on 427 of them. Windows runs on five. If someone asks you, you would say that all versions of Linux suck, including those 427 that run circles around Windows. You say ALL versions of Linux are in Beta, incomplete, buggy and suck. I say you are thinking in absolutes. Absolute thinking is a sign of absolute stupidity.

Yeah, but I like to wait for the final release (I don't even like using the release candidate). It makes it that much more worth it somehow.

Start with installing it through Wubi. That way you can play with Ubuntu without partitioning or overwriting your windows install. Also visit Ubuntu's forums a lot. They really are helpful.

Not true, for linux tons of things are constantly changing and being added but because of the very nice base and design there is no need to break compatibility much anymore.

Fedora is bleeding edge most of the time so I wouldn't recommend it. I mean Ubuntu's newest release had to talk ATI into getting them a special patched driver for ATI support and Mandrake doesn't even have that support, Fedora is no better off than Mandrake.Ubuntu Is actually coming along very nicely nowadays go get a live-daily cd i was fairly impressed.
