linux-watch.com — For Linux business users, the most important Linux release of 2007 so far is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. But for most other Linux fans, the upcoming release of Ubuntu Version 7.04 on April 19 demands more attention.

I'm not sure they'll call it Windows 7. That's what Mary Jo Foley thinks anyway. Some speculate that Windows Vista was the last of it kind anyway, e.g.As Microsoft looks ahead, will Vista be the end of an era?<a class="user" href="http://business.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,13129-2494732,00.html">http://business.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,13129-2494732,00.html</a>Why Vista might be the last of its kind<a class="user" href="http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2003460386_btview04.html">http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2003460386_btview04.html</a>Vista: Microsoft's Last 'Big Bang' Operating System?<a class="user" href="http://newz.byethost31.com/Microsoft_vista_last_big_bang_operating_system.htm">http://newz.byethost31.com/Microsoft_vista_last_big_bang_operating_system.htm</a>Is Vista the End of Windows as We Know It?<a class="user" href="http://www.oreillynet.com/windows/blog/2006/11/is_vista_the_end_of_windows_as.html">http://www.oreillynet.com/windows/blog/2006/11/is_vista_the_end_of_windows_as.html</a>Life After Vista: Can Microsoft Retool for Web?<a class="user" href="http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB116459728069433263-K0zAOblcMz_...">http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB116459728069433263-K0zAOblcMz_...</a>Windows Vista the last of its kind<a class="user" href="http://www.techworld.com/news/index.cfm?RSS&NewsID=6718">http://www.techworld.com/news/index.cfm?RSS&NewsID=6718</a>Maybe they'll just grab SUSE, put the Microsoft logo on it, and call it a day. Another version of this made digg main page, so this is now a dupe. Go here for the discussion:<a class="user" href="http://digg.com/linux_unix/Ubuntu_7_04_arrives_Thursday_2">http://digg.com/linux_unix/Ubuntu_7_04_arrives_Thursday_2</a>

I've been using 7.04 for about a month now and I have to say Wow! It is leaps and bounds greater then Vista(been using for 4 months now). Beryl is easily apt-get'd and works great, with effects that blows Aero out of the water. The Network manager works with virtually everything. My School uses EAP-PEAP with dynamic WEP, which would work under the semi-cryptic wpa_supplicant, but the manager has the setting for this, does it all nice and graphically. I would recommend automatix and the unofficial ubuntu wiki to anyone who needs that quick fix for playing DVD's or getting wine to work, but this is real competition for vista in my mind and professional opinion.
