Some people burn CDs for just a couple of photos. Besides, linuxtracker.org has also been providing torrents for the Linux kernel, which is just a few megabytes once compiled.

that depends what drivers you use for the kernel. there is no one way to compile a kernel to make it work on EVERY machine out there. that's why the source form is distributed.

I did mean it jokingly! I'd happily burn this to an RW to install a machine from it - at least I guess you can guarantee your pretty much up to date once installed as everything will need to come from the repos! Could be good if you could change the sources.list during install to point to a local apt database, i.e one setup on your local lan if installing to more then one client?
