I just switched to Ubuntu from SuSe. The best part about Ubuntu is all the community support lying around. I had zero problems getting everything, including video, working just by following walkthroughs found through Google.

>>but I cannot get my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 fully working with 3d,>I cannot get Macromedia Flash,>I cannot get java,>>working on my AMD Athlon 64..Could just be me...i donno about ubuntu. but gentoo.flash wont work unless you use 32bit emulation(firefox-bin) because flash is not opensource and not coded for 64bit.java is not ported to 64bit yet.ATI does not support linux. so linux is supporting ATI. and there are some tools availalbe. you can google about it. or read the gentoo documentation(i know your on ubuntu, but gentoo has good docs and anyother distro)

ubuntu is a great distro with a 6 month release cycle and 3 year (i think) support of older versions...that is fantastic and beats m$ hands down. i have installed it on multiple machines and the only thing i have trouble with is my laptop video card (via unichrome pro) everything else "just works." on top of all of this, 5.10 includes ndiswrapper and all my wireless cards work fresh from install.

ATI does support Linux to a certain extent, but it's commonly accepted amongst Linux users that its support is of a much lower priority/quality than their competitor NVidia's.It took them a ridiculously long time to catch on to kernel 2.6, and even a longer time to figure out that most people are using Xorg now :)

The ones who say Ubuntu isn't the s**t just don't know. They've been humping the fat chick for so long, the skinny blonde no longer looks good to them.
