breitbart.com — The United States on Monday revealed a plan to deploy four launch pads for a U.S.-led missile defense system in Japan's southernmost prefecture of Okinawa later this week and moved part of equipment for the system from a port to the U.S. Kadena Air Base amid local protest.

Well, I just looked out the window here in Pyongyang. The police are running in small circles, waving their hands in the air. :\

"Clay" is close to being on target. If you don't know the history of WWII, the US, Japan and Okinawa you might find it a good read. Although it has been my personal experience that most of the Okinawans don't seem to mind too much that we are on Okinawa, there is an extremely vocal "few" who are determined to protest the US presence. The truth is, that the US being in any nation will bring both good things and bad things for both nations. In this instance, I'd have to personally say the both countries are definitely receiving much more benefit than 'cost' in this relationship. Okinawa is a strategic location for the US and in return we provide defense to Okinawa and Japan.Unfortunately, in the past there has been service members who have committed some serious crimes off base (look no further than google for more info). This is unfortunate as while it doesn't fairly represent the entire US Military, it makes the most headlines. As for the affect that the patriot missiles will have on US/Okinawan relationships; I don't believe that it will make the much of an impact. It, like our very presence on the island, brings both good points and what some might call 'bad' points but overall it is a win-win situation.

So what? That digg title is misleading. Local protest perhaps, but the Japs are scared s**tless about the way Pyongyang has been posturing itself for the last few years. Remember when they shot a test missile right over Japan itself?

i'm just tired of reading pro-pot posts on this site, and people using every excuse in the book to legalize the stuff.Personally, i've seen it ruin the lives of many people. Maybe those people would have ruined their lives with something else if mary jane didnt exist, but the fact remains that their clutch was weed -- and it drove them to only care about weed.I don't feel that harsher punishment will detur much, except for maybe on the lower end where if you were to smoke weed you got shot.... and you raise some good points on why that isbut resorting to namecalling (yes i'm talking to all of you above who did so), just shows your mentality and maturity. Smoke another one.Just keep telling yourselves that you're not frying your brains out.. you certainly could be spending your money on better things. You're in a state of denial. Much like your government, your country and your people. All in denial.

I'm currently stationed in Japan and most Japanese don't give a flying rats ass that we are here. Because the Japanese government picks up bill for all the utilities(water, etc) on the military bases, so it would be cheaper for us to posistion missles over here than pay our bills. Plus if Japan was ever attacked most of the soldiers from the states would need to go through Japan before going into Korea. Japan also has a Self-Defense force but it is very small.
