washingtonpost.com — Allies offered $854 million in cash and in oil that was to be sold for cash. But only $40 million has been used so far for disaster victims or reconstruction, according to U.S. officials and contractors. Most of the aid went uncollected, including $400 million worth of oil.

The white house knew the levees broke for a whole day and did nothing about it! Read this. http://www.gregpalast.com/18-missing-inches-in-new-orleans/#more-1705

I'm not sure yet whether this represents corruption or incompetence.......or both. Either way, the people currently running our government have proven time and time again that they don't have a clue what they are doing. This is what you get when republicans run the government folks. Take note of it, and remember it on election day.

America is the biggest f**king joke in the world and this is just one of too many punchlines. Don't feel too bad though. If the money had gotten through it would have just been snatched up by other leeches.

@ daybreaker:yeah i'm sure there's no end to price gouging down there. i've heard stories of people overcharging on *diapers*. Now we know it's unethical, and i could have sworn i'd heard it was illegal, but the point is, it's supply and demand. like you said, people must have been paying. i'm not sure if bush has the power to mandate price gouging not take place, and i'm sure it would be hard to put in place, it being subjective. Also, not sure if i want to let bush expand his power even more...@monmon1:from your article, evacuation was already taking place. it was probably deemed unnecessary to take any more action. no one knew how bad it was going to be. Plus, i'm not sure that article is credible, what with it's multiple substitutions of 'breeches' (pants) for 'breaches' (breaks)

@daybreakerThat is the great thing about a free market. If there is money to be made the gov. won't have to give them any money. They will rebuild themselves. And the refinereis and the ports will foot the bill. Lets face it. This is a America. There isn't any propble the Government can't step in and make worse and more expensive.
