The US Military are a bunch of idiots. Majority of the drug problems in Mexico are to the north. Recently the Mexican government has been sending military to the northern border towns and they have manage to catch a few top leaders of the drug cartels. The Mexican military is doing this with a budget that is probably 1/3 of what the Cartels have at their disposal. In my opinion what needs to be done is catch the buyers in the US. I'm not talking about your average street dealer, but about the big guys. So don't be one sided and blame Mexico for the drug problem. Also, don't be surprised if we ever come to find out that the CIA is involved in this. How else will they fund their side projects.
"...Regardless, if we do not try to forecast the future, there is no doubt that we will be caught off guard as we strive to protect this experiment in democracy that we call America."the us is not a democracy, but a republic. if they really cared about protecting it, they wouldn't spend all of the trillions allocated each year to the military, cia, fbi, etc getting the rest of the world po'd at us.
Why should it be wrong to shut people out? Our economy is in a tailspin, the last thing we need is more mouths to feed. I have no problem with educated, hard working immigrants, especially if they're bringing investment money into the country. But we have enough uneducated laborers already collecting benefits. We don't need any more.

The anti-constitution American Drug War has definitely played a MAJOR role in destabilizing Mexico.

Yup. Our Government is laughably bad at almost everything it does. It's only comparatively better than Mexico's.
