iht.com— "WASHINGTON: The Bush administration said Tuesday it will fight to keep meatpackers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease"

The cost of testing has no direct impact on the selling price. If people value tested meat more highly than untested meat, the price will be higher; if not, it won't.The correct answer to rockandroll's question: "How much would it cost the consumer to test 100%?" is: (assuming it's done by the free market, not by government regulation) nothing (actually, some negative amount!)
Congratulations! I've been a 100% vegetarian now for about a month and couldn't feel better, always full of energy :Djoin VeggieBoards forums if you need help with your decision or just need to share of your thoughts about it.good luck!
@1newyorkguyhey idiot, read the article. consumers aren't demanding anything. this is big government preventing a small business from voluntarily testing it's animals for diseases. misesean is right. if higher testing standards are unprofitable they will stop. that's how capitalism works. there is absolutely no reason the government should be involved in this decision.

"They'll simply pass the cost to the consumer."If they can do that, why don't they increase their prices right now?
