I think a lot of times people move where it's warm because they think they hate the cold, when in reality they hate...everything. Moving to a warm climate tends to not make them happier people, they just think it will.
Depression is an all too commonly used excuse in today's society. (Yes - I realize that real clinical depression does exist), but I don't think it plays any roll in home values for primary homes... maybe in vacation homes, but even that shows vast inconsistencies. Hawaii... sure, but what about Florida?.
