thinkprogress.org — Dennis Prager, who demands that an incoming Muslim Congressman swear in with a Christian Bible, is a Bush appointee to the Holocaust Museum board. The Museum has now issued a statement distancing itself from Prager's views.

The true founders of our country were by and large not religious men. Look at Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams. All of them were very skeptical of the benefits of organized religion and were even outright scornful at times. The whole idea that this country was founded by god-fearing, pious, bible thumping men is erroneous. Our country and it's ideals were created by intelligent, secular philosophers.

actually smart guy, no one actually swears on a bible. They all just walk into congress and raise their hands, and they get to carry whatever they want. Read the constitution, no religious test shall be required for public office. The only one with an agendy mr. judeo-christian values, is you.you know what "Americans are going to have to learn to draw the line somewhere soon or we won't even recognize this country in 25 years." sounds like?it sounds like an uncharismatic prophet of doom.Hippo-crazy, that's what you are.

Know what also "fl[ies] in the face of ... Civil Rights and the Constitution"? Your call to outlaw Islam in the United States that you posted on your website,http://www.foehammer.net/2006/12/save-usa-outlaw-islam.html and then subsequently submitted:http://digg.com/political_opinion/Save_the_USA_OUTLAW_ISLAMYou don't have a clue what's in the Constitution or what it means. You're the last person that should be lecturing anybody about how to respect it.

Why would we want them to do work? Their work is making laws. Each law reduces our freedom. More laws = less freedom.

The new democratic Congress, Elison included, is all for an increased workload. If you want to complain about a lazy Congress that couldn't even get spending bills passed, complain to the outgoing Congress.

The Bible was used to support slavery, but that has not prevented people from subsequently swearing upon it. Should the use of the Koran for similarly backward policies prevent its ceremonial use?

@Foehammersanvil: "Americans are going to have to learn to draw the line somewhere soon or we won't even recognize this country in 25 years."Thank heavens, the racist crazies of 25 years ago cannot recognize America for what it has become today - a more tolerant society. The last remaining xenophobes like yourself will, I am sure, not recognize America 25 years later, hopefully.
