If you did a little research you'd find out that Obama isn't bluntly raising the corporate tax. He's never said that. He's reforming it by making it simpler and taking out loopholes that allow some companies to get away with very low taxes. That means for some companies, their tax will increase, for others, it will decrease. Just a few seconds of googling turns up things like thishttp://www.cnbc.com/id/25203220Also, your claim that"the more companies pay to the government in the form of taxes = less amounts of money for capital purposes = less investment in machines, production, expansions = fewer jobs."is completely false. Corporations pass most of their taxes onto consumers in the form of higher prices - which most people would barely notice. Under Obama, most working class Americans would get a nice tax break as well.
so is a zebra a black horse with white stripes or a white horse with black stripes? One man's recession is another man's depression and yet another's salad days. Some people make money when the rest of the world doesn't. To use the stereotypical 2 quarters of declining growth is to imply all data is equal and is reported equally well by all parties with a vested stake in the outcome, something I'm sure our fine government officials would surely do. They do everything else so well in Washington D.C., I'm certain we should let them decide what numbers to use, and when to call a recession. No matter if we are surviving on dirt and water or living in gold palaces, let the government compile the data to define our reality. If that doesn't scare the s**t out of you, you are insane or a politician.
yeah, manufacturing and construction are such an insignificant aspect of our economy. no use in counting those figures. just because they constituted the majority of good paying middle class jobs in the usa is no reason to include them. those "retail, service/travel, transportation/distribution, financial energy industries and the like" jobs you refer to are mostly minimum wage jobs. what a great thing for america, to export good paying jobs and replace them with minimum wage jobs. this may explain your bogus subprime mortgage theory. do you really think people can pay their mortgages when their $20+ per hour jobs are replaced with minimum wage jobs? my logic is not "too broad" as you suggest. my logic is that of a middle class american who is facing unemployment or under employment as a direct result of the current administration's policies. ignore immigration laws so industries can have cheap labor. if that doesn't work for the industries in question, simply send jobs overseas to countries with no labor laws. it sure is good for political contributions to the politicians who embrace these policies. for the middle class of america, not so much.i find it ironic that bush embraced a "tax stimulus package" this year. give consumers a one time tax refund to stimulate the economy. wouldn't it make sense that good paying jobs for the middle class would do this 52 weeks per year? oops, that would contradict the republican's holy grail of "trickle down economics", which has been a dismal failure for decades.
if the illegals are forced to go home, wages for middle class americans would rise. when industry cries "we can't get americans to do the jobs we have" they are only telling half of the story. the truth is, they can't get americans to do the work they have FOR THE WAGES THEY ARE OFFERING. they have no incentive to offer good paying jobs to americans when they can get illegals to do it for half the price and no benefits. they know that there will be no consequences for ignoring immigration laws, so why pay more? we can thank our politicians for this. if the supply of cheap immigrant labor vanished, all companies would be forced to play on an even playing field. the increase in wages for the middle class would mean millions or billions of dollars more in revenue that could be spent on stimulating the economy. bush just authorized the "economic stimulus package" this year for all tax paying americans. the problem with this is that it is a one time deal. increasing wages for the middle class would have the same effect on our economy for 52 weeks per year. unfortunately, this directly contradicts the republicans' current economic policies.
