Ummm... has anyone mentioned that the government didn't create the internet yet? I know that darpa developed a lot of the technologies that HELPED make it possible but the internet was created be corporations companies and average people.P.S. I think the internet should create a new government

Ummm.... actually, DARPANET is what started the internet. The researchers behind the project created the first protocols that enabled the internet's infrastructure to work. So yes, technically the government DID fund and develop what is now known as the internet.P.S. the internet is better off not having any government control it. The US created it, and let it loose to the public. That's why the internet grew into what it is today. Why stifle that?

@jonesinWhile money is very important in the creation of any new project you also have to look at the how arapanet was laid out. The very idea of a network needs a lot of co-operation, the fact that state universities and government contractors could work on an non-competitive, neutral territory is essential to the initial creation of such project. Conflicting interests and competition of resources would have created too hostile of an environment for something like arapanet to have been created in the first place.
