news.bbc.co.uk — Senate Republicans have blocked a bid by Democrats to give US troops in Iraq more home leave - a plan strongly opposed by Bush. The Democrats wanted US troops to have time off between tours in Iraq equal to their 15-month deployments. The measure needed 60 votes to pass in the Democratic controlled Senate but received only 56 votes.

60,000 Americans perished in Vietnam. Thank You for your partisan rhetoric "otakushark". And no, they die "HONORABLE" deaths, not horrible. Bring up Bush. Where were You??

You've got that wrong, BUDDY, the only reason half these people join is because this economy is in such shambles that they have no choice. Thankless nation? Are you serious? Man there's a difference between defending this country, and being the pawn for some skull and bones DICKFACE war-dodging asstunneling cokehead who's only interest was going after Saddam and turning Iraq into some f**ked up version of what he thinks it should be. I watched that special on HBO last night where Gandolfinni interviewed those wounded troops, it made me sick with anger and damn near brought me to tears. There is no reason what-so-ever why these brave men and womens lives are just being tossed away like worthless garbage, and yet YOU have the audacity to call *US* a thankless nation? How exactly is keeping these brave young souls in harms way being thankful? You want to keep them there longer? What an assh**e. I'm sorry you couldn't join, maybe then your stupid limbless ass would be singing a different f**king tune.

First, the war is illegal as described by the Constitution, Second, learn about the accounting term called Sunk Cost.

Sigh. The Constitution has absolutely nothing to say on the subject of legal versus illegal war. The Constitution says that only Congress has the right to declare war, and Congress REPEATEDLY authorized the use of military force in Iraq, so even by the strictest, most myopic interpretation that ignores 200 years of precedent, the war is in no way illegal or unconstitutional.Doesn't mean it was a good idea. Just means you're something of an idiot.
