ps3land.com — In a surprising move, Sony has opted not to include a USB cable with their retail SIXAXIS controllers. A USB cable is required to charge the controller's integrated battery, otherwise, the controller is rendered useless.

If by choose, you mean that your only choice is batteries until you buy the charger kit, then I agree.

"Bad title to this story. You get a cable with the console, what more do you want?"Um, a cable for every device (controller)? This has nothing to do with the 360, why are yo bringing it up? This has only to do with Sony trying to trim twenty-five cents off each controller cost at the expense of making things slightly less convenient for the customer. You should be able to easily charge every controller you have for your PS3 at the same time, not only to help fuel those long multiplayer gaming sessions, but also to plug them all in to trickle charge before hand. What's next, they break your toys and kick your dog if you buy the PS3?

I've never seen a digital camera without a USB cable, and most non tech people I know who find out they have to spend another $10+ (which is what "printer" cables go for at big box stores) on a cable for the printer they just bought are pissed about it.I can easily see needing to charge all your controllers at once, either right before or during a long multiplayer gaming session. You're using all the controllers the same amount and so would expect to charge them at about the same time. Or what if you accidentally leave both controllers on (they apparently have to be manually turned off) Sunday night and don't notice 'till next Saturday when you want to play some Madden with a friend? Too bad for you, I guess.

Sony hates it's customer base.

The souls of the dead children in my basement fuel my controllers.

This isn't a USB cable for data transfers though...This is a cable to power/recharge the unit. How many electric devices do you know come with Li-Ion batteries, but no cable to power it back up when the battery dies???

If you are buying a PS3 you most likely have the cash AND already have the cable seeing you'll most likely have a digital camera, MP3 player (non-Ipod) or some other item that uses it.
