joystiq.com— USA Today ... published a story today discussing Sony's fall from an almost monopolistic first place with the PlayStation 2 to less-than-stellar sales with the PlayStation 3.

@Dirk,Well, if M$ could have done better with their Production, that wouldn't have been a problem. Sony has problems with Supply at launch, now they dont. So saying you cant find something means its selling better, is like saying, Me selling 2 of 2 is better than you selling 10 of 15. Its not. M$ did pick up production at launch. They did now; which is why I see 40 XBox's (core and premium combined) at BestBuy and only see 2 PS3's.Sony isnt an underdog. Sony just bet on future technology. Just like the PS2 took a while to really takeoff, so will the PS3. The more developers design and program for the Cell, the better the games will get. Just takes time. All this bandwagon jumping (on or off) is useless.
itsme: "my favorite newspaper is my local rag and my favorite My Little Pony is the blue one and my favorite flavor of bubble gum is..."Huh- that's funny. Nobody seems to give a s**t...
Sony has made very few good original games.Nintendo on the other hand, makes great games. But, considering that third party support has been an ongoing issue with the Gamecube, and now the Wii, it would be fair to say that Nintendo is much better at making games than making hardware.
Nintendo continues to rule the handheld scene, with two major handhelds on the market. The Gamegear and Wonderswan were more formidable competitors than the PSP was. Nintendo still managed to beat Sega's color handheld with their own black-and-white handheld. The Wonderswan had exclusive Final Fantasy games (for a while). The PSP was just Sony's "me too" handheld.
@Maynard:The SNES had greater graphical capabilities than the Genesis. The last batch of SNES games such as DK Country, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Yoshi's Island, etc had better graphics than games for the 32X and Sega CD add-ons. Even cross-platform games (Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Super Street Fighter 2, etc) looked smoother on the SNES than the Genesis.
Its a bad comparison because in this case Sony started off as dominant in the videogame market not Microsoft. If anything the analogy is a neat way of summing up how Microsoft will once again come along and destroy an industry leader in exactly the same way they destroyed Netscape.

I think you mean they AREN'T mutually exclusive. In other words, one is not a replacement for the other, correct?

Well it's actually Enix's franchise, but w/e. I understand what you mean, although FF on a console is more important outside of Japan to be fair.

The next-generation doesn't start until Sony says it does, eh?
