autoblog.com — The Institute for European Environmental Policy in the UK is looking into banning cars from school zones. Why? Not to protect students from being hit by a car, but instead to get kids to get exercise and help fight obesity.

That wouldn't be such a bad idea. If you can pick the activity, it should be something you'd enjoy doing. Otherwise, not everyone is so inspired to be healthy. I've seen people who will get in their car to go 2 blocks!

I can handle that in the US if 1) they do a better job mapping school zones. Most of the zones, here in the US (Dallas), go through heavy trafficked areas. Banning cars from there would be unreasonable. And 2) they provide proper transportation or places to "drop off" kids that live more than a (half?) mile from school.
