newsroom.ucla.edu — Some of you might have already seen the YouTube video of a UCLA student getting tasered by campus police for not having his ID. This lame statement about the investigation has been released by Acting Chancellor Norman Abrams on the UCLA home page. It has all the buzzwords to tell us that this will get buried under a mountain of bureaucratic BS.

This kid was given plenty of time to stand up. Instead, he chose to rant on-and-on-and-on about police brutality and such. Here's a hint fot the kid: present your ID or STFU and leave as the police asks. WHY DIDN'T THE KID PRESENT HIS ID WHEN ASKED?

The idiot was requested to show his ID at least twice - but he refused to do so.I guess this punk feels he is so much better than the rest of us - feels that he is above the law.

No registration for me? Lawyer statement he was leaving and detained.Attorney Stephen Yagman said he plans to file a federal civil rights lawsuit accusing the UCLA police of "brutal excessive force," as well as false arrest. The lawyer also provided the first public account of the Tuesday night incident at UCLA's Powell Library from the student, Mostafa Tabatabainejad, a 23-year-old senior. He said that Tabatabainejad, when asked for his ID after 11 p.m. Tuesday, declined because he thought he was being singled out because of his Middle Eastern appearance. Yagman said Tabatabainejad is of Iranian descent but is a U.S.-born resident of Los Angeles. The lawyer said Tabatabainejad eventually decided to leave the library but when an officer refused the student's request to take his hand off him, the student fell limp to the floor, again to avoid participating in what he considered a case of racial profiling. After police started firing the Taser, Tabatabainejad tried to "get the beating, the use of brutal force, to stop by shouting and causing people to watch. Generally, police don't want to do their dirties in front of a lot of witnesses."He said Tabatabainejad was hit by the Taser five times and suffered "moderate to severe contusions" on his right side."

Thanks for your statement. Now if you don't have any objections, I will avoid your library indefinitely.

This should have been a story about 4 cops being brutally beaten by 50 + students.

Okay, all he had to do was show his ID. And after that, all he had to do was comply with their requests to leave. They asked him to leave or stand up like 50 times. But he just kept yelling and not cooperating instead. Even after they tasered him he still wouldn't just get up and leave. He was raving like a lunatic - what do you expect those cops to do, wait around all night for this guy to comply with their requests for him to leave?

Chancellor,I sincerely hope that you do the right thing in regards to the student who was unlawfully assaulted by supposed officers of the law on your campus. This situation is a travesty and anything other than swift action against those men who would so flagrantly abuse the powers granted them as protectors and servants of the people should be dealt with swiftly and harshly.A concerned patriot,Micah Glasser

I'm not a spelling/grammar nazi (this is my first post like that, check my history...) I just think if you're sending a letter, you should probably write the word you mean.

Remember that black-teen who was thrown head-first into the hood of a car by cops, while unconscious. Same thing..excessive use of force-----T*O*P*I*C Discussion Started: 07-10-2002, 2:54 PMAttorneys for a teen who was videotaped while an Inglewood policeofficer slammed him onto a squad car plan to file a lawsuit over theincident as public pressure mounts and various law enforcement agencieslaunch separate investigations. Meanwhile another man claims he too wasbeaten by Inglewood police officers. What do you think about the policebrutality situation in Inglewood? Elsewhere? What, if anything, do youthink the videotape proves?[ a woman working for the Feds was also subject to abuse by that a-hole. Really got messed with. She was yelling at the a-hole, that she was on "his side" ]don87654 07-16-2002, 3:27 PMSouthern California cops are just plain crooked, period! I was once aState of California Correctional Peace Officer at the CaliforniaInstitute for Women at Frontera. We were taught in the Academy at Galthow to formulate evidence to make ourselves look good and victims tolook bad. I refused to cater to this treatment and was fired by anabusive Lieutenant that was in charge of Internal Affairs at the time.Later because of my outspoken stances on this, charges were leviedagainst me involving vehicle tampering and simple assault and I wasconvicted of this by what appeared to be paid police witnesses. Myattorney at the time, one of the best criminal lawyers in southernCalifornia, told me to pack my bags and leave town, which I did. It tookhim 8 long years to get my conviction erased from court records and toget the warrant for my arrest dropped by the court so I was no longer"wanted". It does not matter where they are at....these California copsthat completed the Academy in Los Angeles, or for the State, are justplain crooked--they are taught to be that wayJbp912 07-10-2002, 6:21 PMI am a disabled military veteran. I am in my senior years and I havebecome cynical of police officers and the entire judicial system. Therehas been too much lying, cover-ups, and irresponsible behavior by lawenforcement persons. It seems there is a lack of proper training, poorrecruitment, and too much hubris. The bottom line is bad management andno accountability, but we live in an age of extreme mediocrity.Thank you, JBPPatriottoo 07-10-2002, 4:20 PMThis is a clear cut case of a rabid, over zealous, adreinaline pumped, and I'm suprised his eyes weren't bulging out of his head cop! The teenwas OBVIOUSLY in custody when he was BRUTILIZED with the UNNECESSARYFORCE of SLAMMING his head on the trunk lid of the police car and thenPUNCHING him FIST CLOSED in the face, by the this cop. I don't care whoa person is, or what they have done, NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY deservesto be treated in that manner. Once the 'cuffs' are on, all force thatwas necessary to place a suspect in custody MUST STOP! I hope thismaniac of a police officer is prosecuted to the fullest extent that thelaw allows, and receives the maxium penalty for his crimes! Only whenthe courts get serious and start holding those in the police agenciesaround the country who would engage in this type of brutality, fullyresponsible for thier crimes will we see an end to it!Patriot Too
