foxnews.com — Money transfer agencies like Western Union have delayed or blocked thousands of cash deliveries on suspicion of terrorist connections simply because senders or recipients have Muslim names. A Pakistani said Western Union blocked his attempt to wire money to his brother, Mohammed, for a cataract operation. "Every Mohammed is a terrorist now?"

People can stereotype all they want. It's a bit different when a government does it though.

The more money they hold for ANY reason, the more they make in interest.

Yes, of course they're going to use an entirely different name. They'll walk right into the Western Union depot and say, with a clear and unwavering voice, "My name is Tom O'Leery. I wish to send some money to my aunt Margaret, for back surgery, in Salah ad-Din."

I find it interesting that anyone would even refer to these terrorists as "Muslims" when their faith doesn't accept acts of violence that kill innocent people. These people who kill themselves "in the name of Islam" are wrong. They think that they're being blessed when in fact, what they're doing exactly what is PROHIBITED in Islam. Therefore, they shouldn't be considered Muslims in the first place. It's sad that people associate one of the major religions of the world with terrorism. Have you ever learned about the faith? Do you realize how similar it is to Christianity and Judaism. All three are called "people of the book" for a reason.

@DCMac[s**t]headWow, nice biased, recent event-skewed, history ignoring anglo-saxon analysis there. Lets flip the coin - just a teensy weensy bit - for a second:if someone starts the biggest wars in the last century, steals the land of indigeneous people, enslaves and pillages from "other" races, colonises and then abandons developing nations, and maintains a destructive stranglehold on the mutual development of mankind, chances are they are of a western persuasion.Furthermore, if they kill loads of innocent women and children on a beach (Israel), bomb the crap out of nations with resources they need (US), or profit from the manufacture of fear and weaponry, then you can be sure that 'democracy' ain't far behind. These comments are purely illustrative as a counterpoint to DBs simplistic argument, NOT opinion or any sort of widereaching gesture. Just remember that there is another side to your racist drivel.

i work for western union. if any of u had bothered to research the security queue, you would see that it is NOT western union holding the money. because wu is an american company it has to abide by american laws for transfering money. these laws state that ALL transfers can be screened and any transfers that have a senders/receivers name matching a name on a government sanction list can be held until id is received to prove they are not the actual person on the sanction list. By abiding by these laws WU actually LOSES money, we lose customers because it is supposed to be instant money transfer and these lists are f**king it up. and hey, you'd all be mighty pissed if there was a major terrorist attack next week and it transpired the funds that made it possible were sent through WU.

that means it is held by the usa government, eu, un or the receive country gov for screening.
