autobloggreen.com — It was the longest test drive of its kind: two hydrogen-powered Chevy Sequels drove 300 miles through New York state yesterday, and overall - despite three emergency stops - the test was a success. There's a reason we're not all cruising on hydrogen right now, but this shows just how much work is going on so we can do so in the future.

"Most people can't afford a commuter plus a trip car."Yes, but most families own two cars, but only take one on trips. By replacing the other with an electric the number of gasoline cars would be reduced considerably.

although hydrogen is a really bad idea this is not why. The problem with range is not its efficiency but its FUEL TANK capacity. How much range would you get if you could say only hold 5 gallons? thats the problem with hydrogen. its VERY hard to "hold onto" and "store" it its such a light and tiny atom that it escapes from any normal container with ease and it has to compress to let you take a lot of it with you without expending a lot more energy and even more cost and weight into a container that will hold the now even harder to contain gas.For a space craft it makes perfect sense to expend this energy for its efficiency but for a CAR it makes no sense. SKIP the E to H to E and just go with E you drop 2 conversion in the process gaining much efficiency.

Sadly ZAP and Phoenix have the same problem as all other "current" ev's in that they are worthless since no mere mortals can afford to buy one. If I had 50k I would certainly not be looking for a car ev or otherwise I would be looking at a house. Us mere mortals will never do anything but drool at 40-50-60 thousand dollar cars. When they can make a comfortable 4 person EV that gets 150-200 miles on a charge for under 12k preferably under 10k THEN they will have a winner.
