msnbc.msn.com — Twitter’s chatty nature and intuitive usability resulted in instant popularity, and soon Twitter was hangin’ in the inner most circle of the tech-savvy in-crowd. So, as anybody who ever went high school could predict, affable Twitter started picking up enemies as well. To quote tech blogger Robert Scoble, “Twitter hate is the new black."

Hrmm...methinks that more older people are using Twitter than younger ones. Younger people grew up with instant messaging, and lately use Facebook & MySpace. So they're probably thinking Twitter is old news and is probably useless; to them it's a feature, not a product. Older people, I'm guessing, never really got into IM and customized their IM status, so they think Twitter's all the rage. It's pretty funny, actually. Older people thinking they're hip.

Twitter is for people that want to keep in contact with people that are almost 100% of their time on the web. If you check your emails and then forget about WWW then twitter is not for you.

Twitter by itself isn't all that special, but it's fabulous mashup fodder. It's API is simple, it's got geocoded / location data, and a huge userbase. The data it generates isn't all that interesting now, but I think with the right twists something interesting can emerge from it.
