news.cnet.com — You can't make this stuff up: Representative Peter Hoekstra, a Republican from Michigan, set off a political-blog firestorm when he posted to his Twitter account on Wednesday that "Iranian twitter activity (is) similar to what we did in House last year when Republicans were shut down in the House."

The only comparison he's drawing between House Republicans and Iranian demonstrators is the common use of blogging to get out information. He doesn't say he feels their pain as oppressed people. I posted this on one of the others, but this is nowhere near the level of idiocy of Judge Sotomayor when she claimed that Latinos/as are intrinsically better judges then whites. Imagine the backlash if Hoekstra had stated that being white makes him a better policy-maker.

Comparing situations that differ so greatly in magnitude and severity is still hyperbole no matter how otherwise similar they be.
