deepbackground.msnbc.msn.com — Ever since the Troopergate scandal broke one of the big questions is how exactly Palin could have legally gotten access to her ex brother-in-law's confidential police personnel file. Now the Alaska State Police Union is responding by filing a formal complaint against Palin, which may kick off another investigation into her conduct.

The politicization of law enforcement seems to be a crime occurring at the highest levels of the Republican party -- a situation that isn't likely to be remedied with multiple felony indictments until 2009, when the next batch of U.S. Attorneys get shuffled into the Department of Justice ... and they're going to have their work cut out for them!

A special investigator is appointed who will look into the matter. That is as fair as it gets. Palin has the responsibility to avoid even the appearance of impropriety. A Palin appointed panel deciding on the ethics of her actions violates any notion of impartiality.

CNN article says that the trooper signed a waiver document during his divorce, granting access to his entire personnel file. But it does not say why he would sign that waiver, why it was given to him to sign, or if such a waiver is normal part of a divorce proceeding. Anyone know?

Now McCain wants to sabotage the investigation by firing the lead investigator and replacing him with McCain's own people. Corruption! McCain is just like Bush in so many ways. If you want more of the same vote McCain. Corruption!

I do not understand the argument of electing someone who is "one of us". Conservatives elected their social and intellectual "equal" in the last two elections and it was a disaster. Now they want to elect another geriatric "maverick" with privileged upbringing and a "Hockey Mom" that was a small-town mayor because they are "one of them".Unfortunately the majority of Americans had to live with the consequences in 2000 and at least half had to after 2004.
