Just saying, unless you have a gun.. are YOU skilled enough to defeat an opponent wielding a bastard sword or halberd who is very skilled with it?? And how many people nowadays do you think are actually skilled with any medieval weapon.... that's why.

Even I have a gun... and I'm just some random idiot civilian. What kind of real thug or enemy force, worthy of being opposed by these women in defense of their village, would not have a gun? Shoot, even some mall cops have guns... and they're not exactly rare in the third world. So, basically these women provide absolute protection against harmless unarmed civilians; but if the bad-guys can pool their resources and find $30 for an AK47 or SKS, they're screwed.I'm just going to assume they're training with medieval weapons for the same reason we [Americans] do... because it's fun and requires lots of coordination and physical conditioning. I doubt self-defense is actually part of their agenda.
