ourfuture.org — A week earlier, 31 GOP Senators, mostly from Southern states, voted to avert their eyes and allow American auto companies to die. They opposed $14 billion in federal loans for GM and Chrysler, revealing that their loyalty lies not with America, not even with their own states, but with South Korea and Germany and Japan.

Yeah - let the government decide what they are worth instead of the market. BTW - any idea how much those CEOs pay in taxes every year?

When CEO's grab the cream at the top -give themselves 20 million dollar salaries they have not earned, through their own greed -they have put themselves out of business.25 years ago the first foreign cars arrived in North America -and the trade agreements in those days and still today do not require that they buy our cars, who's fault is that but the politicans that allowed this unfair trade practice? It was designed to put American automakers out of business and it has succeeded. Thank the failures of politicans first.

GM has been losing money for years Toyota hasn't...

Why???? They have known for years if not decades that this day would come... They had huge profits during the 1990's that could have funded the retirement and pensions of UAW. Their competitive disadvantage is due to the poor planing of the Big three and UAW and is not due to international trade or NAFTA. When your say have some one else pick up their health and pension benefits what you really mean is have the US Taxpayer. So the US taxpayer has to bailout wall street social security (which is the worlds largest ponzi scheme) Too many of these bailouts and in 20 years we may wake up and be a bankrupt society. The health benefits are gold plated they have zero copay zero deductibles they are unrivaled in any industry. I don't fault them for having it, I just don't want to pay for it. During early 1900's Ford and GM bankrupted thousands of other car companies because of their low cost and high quality. The American consumer bought them because they were the best cars. Now the US consumer is again shifting to cars that are lower cost and higher quality and are made in the US. This is the same pressure that benefited Why does Ford or GM have a god given right to exist? Its existence is due to the american consumer buying their cars if that declines no amount of bailout will help.

It isn't just the left screaming. If you will look to your right you will see the same. Those like you in the center should stick to what you are good at: Sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling "LA LA LA LA LA!"

We are all taking a huge cut to bailout Wall Street and we are rewarding them to boot. I would rather take a cut for the average man than the extremely rich, and no I do not work for the auto industry.
