wired.com — Touchscreen displays are going to get a big boost from Windows 7’s built-in support for multitouch tech — but there’s a hitch: Flicking, scrolling and opening programs can be cumbersome when stubby fingers meet Windows’ tiny icons and menu items.

For a portable device, yes touchscreens are cool. For a desktop? No. How will one prevent gorilla arm?

Just copy the touchscreens in Star Trek TNG.I honestly think the keyboard will eventually be replaced with OLED "touchboards". Software you buy will come with their own interface to load on your touchboard. It'll be sorta like RPG keypad layouts.

For a multi-touch style keyboard, OLEDs teamed with memory polymers would be the way to go... but I will be holding on to standard mechanical keyboards for as long as I can. You receive quite a bit of information about where your fingers are landing even with subtle brushes against the edges of keys, and the ridges marking the home row. Touch typing will be more error prone without some sort of physical way to determine where your hands and fingers actually are.

I think for non-tech savy users, say retarded parents, these would be perfect.. Though i wouldn't mind having a touch screen interface to access my media server :)

My 3 year old expected our netbook to be touchscreen after using my Android G1; it's intuitive.

Really, what would we do. Because you know, there iphone apps from the first day it was released right? f**king morons. How about giving some time for the market and Windows 7 to catch up.
