engadget.com — Japan's NHK has followed up The Hollywood Reporter's earlier indications Toshiba was ready to dump its money-losing HD DVD business, with news that the company is prepared to cease manufacturing software and hardware, at a loss of hundreds of millions of dollars. This caps the worst week ever for red, when HD DVD was dumped by Netflix and Wal-mart

Your friend turned off auto-play at some point. The default is on. If you turn on auto-play disks in the tray will play when you turn on the machine.

You must not hang around HDBits much. Every BD+ movie in existence is available for download on there.

Blu-ray as more band width Blu-ray 40mb, HD-DVD 29mb. So while they both use pretty much the same codecs they can be better on Blu-ray and now they will be since they don't have to be held back for duel format releases.

I was an early adopter with my PS3 at launch. I don't regret it one bit with 5 free movies, built in wifi, SACD support, card reader, And the fact that as an upscaling DVD player the PS3 gets 120 out of 130 on the HQV test now. I won't be rebuying most of my media unless the DVDs stop working. So I'm not in trouble. This isn't the same as VHS to DVD. I worked at a Block Buster when they went DVD only. Many of the customes were crazy and threw fits because they didn't want to go DVD. They used to get really pissed when we'd tell them to just go across the street to Sams's & Wal-mart and buy a DVD player for $30. They couldn't afford it, never mind they just spent $12 on movie rentals. I early adopted to DVD as well, I had to stop at BB on the way home to rent some DVDs as I couldn't afford them plus the player back then, $25 for a DVD...

And probably c**k as well.

Not likely, they were selling their players at a loss. Now they have to recoup their lost money.
