engadgethd.com — We're not exactly sure what's going on in Toshiba land, but shortly after not-exactly-believable whispers made the rounds of the firm suddenly deciding to try its hand at making a Blu-ray player, we're now seeing reports stating that it will pull the plug on its beloved format "in the coming weeks."

When you are downloading multi-gigabytes of data from the internet, it really doesn't matter whether it came from a Bluray disc or an HD-DVD disc.

If it comes true or ot, the reasoning by the Reporter was horrible. He would have received a "D" in logic class.

So what? you got a great deal, the HD DVD player still upconverts, still plays CDs ... plus your BD player is not going to play those HD DVDs - are you goign to go out and buy your HD DVD library anew in BD even though you have the player and the movies?

wow.. so let me do some math here. I spent 150 for a player, a PLAYER and the PS3 is a game machine and a Blu-ray player for 400+. All I wanted was a player so.. 400-150 = 250. Oh.. so I can buy a Wii too!! sweet.

DRM and profiles are two different things. BD+ is a dynamic DRM that can be different per movie title. That means every new method of BD+ encryption will have to be reverse-engineered, and just because one movie is cracked doesn't mean that any other is. So far there hasn't been extensive use of BD+, but once they see what they can do with it, there might. Its a risk that HD-DVD never had; it had only one DRM and it was cracked some time ago.

What? That's like saying you got a Leap Frog system rather than a DS or PSP because you wanted a portable game system. They're just not comparable feature-wise, and you got a PLAYER, not a BLU-RAY PLAYER. Again, TOTALLY different things there.

whilst somewhere, in an LG factory, the designer of the world's first duo format player starts to lick some lead paint peelings, hoping to obliterate the memory of the last two years
