torrentfreak.com — You are standing in a store looking for a new DVD to buy. Rather than buying it, you photograph the barcode with your phone and press a couple of buttons. By the time you make it home, the movie is waiting for you in your torrent client. You can with Torrent Droid.

The real question is, what happened to 'you can't own a non-tangible thing'?

You've already bought the DVD, why not just pop it in and watch it. Seriously why would you buy a DVD, then watch a lesser quality version of it that you downloaded?

You're presuming that the downloaded copy is lower quality among other things. That depends upon the variety of rip involved. I very well could select the full dvd quality rip and leave it as a mpeg2 file to play on my PVR.As to why buy the hard copy then, I personally would much rather have the hard copy in my library and be able to show that I did support the people who's files I am watching. Quaint of me I'm sure.

Hulu is owned by the studios, who own the intellectual rights to the shows. The studios don't "know that people are sharing their shows," they are the ones sharing them. It's like the networks got together and started a "channel" online.

They don't leave the disc in the case - they only put empty display cases on the shelves.

Either way. Why waste the time and bandwidth to download it when you have your very own copy.

Ditto here. Although I still buy most of my Music in CD form and then rip the CDs to FLAC.But for the one-song type of thing and out-of-print albums, I buy from Amazonmp3.I confess, I did download a pirated album recently..but that was only cuz I didn't have the patience to wait for the copy I paid for to arrive in my mailbox 5 days later. :DThere will alwys be cheap-ass folks out there, but you are right - The convenience factor of downloading audio and video vs buying (or renting) physical media can make a world of difference.

That is the coolest frickn' thing I have seen in a long time! I can go to stores, scan bar codes, download the torrent, and send them to my PC when I get home? I think I just got an erection!

Simply amazing. Both for legal and illegal use. There are a million different ways in which the scanning of a bar-code that identifies a product could be put into legal usage. Comparing prices, looking for similar products with the same usage, suggestions of similar products in the same category (for example same types of films, music), suggestions of concerts near you by a artist on an album are just a few legitimate uses. And for the pirates, well actually more of a cool thing than really useful. I'm not shopping that often and if I find something, I would have the patience to wait until I come home and search for the thing. Or just buy it in the store.
