My brother-in-law lent me his Tom Tom for the weekend and I didn't have any problems with it. Using a GPS navigation system for the first time, I thought the Tom Tom was great. He swears by them and wouldn't use any other.

Does anyone know how that Pioneer AVIC-N3 compares with the Eclipse AVN7000? If the Pioneer is just as good, then I'll save the money. :)Here's a link to the Eclipse model: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-CSmEyHuFgvF/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=182350&I=099AVN7000

Meh...My TomTom300 does exactly what its meant to do. It gets me from A to B to C etc etc etc... I think this article is to biased towards Garmin... Do we know for sure if alternative devices where even actually tested?

That's my thought, too... I'm a big TomTom fan, and I think the TomTom is second to none. But it wasn't mentioned a bit.

Unfortunate that only automobile GPS devices were included in the mix. Myself, I drool over the Garmin GPSMAP 496... works in aircraft, automobiles, and boats. It can also download weather from XM, and is in general, pretty much the best portable unit money can buy. It comes at a price though, it sells for $3,000.

The built in BMW GPS Navteq Navigation is IMO the best in-car dash navigation.Shows full screen map, split screen map/directions, voice, lots of POI, DVD has all states.Shows fuel consumption, mileage, range on remaining fuel. The newest coolest feature is it projects an orange arrow through the windshield that shows which road you need to take. This arrow appears to hover about 6 ft in front of the car and works perfectly well. It doesn't have a DVD player though which is good as its a dangerous distraction.

A lot of people say Garmin is good, but Garmin is just average. Trimble is much more precise, its just that Garmin is good at Marketing and its owner is entrepreneur who has a drive to succeed. I found one article http://articles.gpsfaq.com/details.aspx?item=37 that compares Garmin, but in any way Garmin is better because its marketing ads are better. Its everywhere!
