blog.scifi.com— This is a nice roundup of the most-common things to avoid buying next time you walk into a Best Buy. Some of it may be obvious, but most of us have bought into at least one of these (c'mon, admit it).

I would agree...in some instances. I would never buy a used or refurbished hard drive. Nor would i buy a used battery for my laptop. Anything with a limited lifetime on it will only fail sooner. That said, I would certainly go for the used/refurbished sound card, flash drive, or router.
@dobesov: The United States is not the world. In Canada one of our major electronics stores is Future Shop. They still run on 100% commission for most sales people. Trust me.
@bradmoreland: Hah! Exactly...Cables make a difference only if you have super high end electronics to match. Think of it like... Your cables should be say 5% of the cost of your equipment. If you get the $100 calbles for a $400 TV you're an idiot. If you spend $6000 on a TV (I still think you're an idiot btw) then get the better cables cause then you'd actually be able to see the small difference that it makes.

...So he used a power extension cord to replace $1000 speaker audio cables? Maybe I'm just missing something here.
