huh? I've been using Ubuntu for about 3 years now; I don't know what you're talking about....maybe we all need to chip in and buy you a copy of Ubuntu Linux for Dummies.

Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Skype, Google Earth are all examples of non-free software that runs on Linux. If you run Linux, you can sudo apt-get install vrms and then run vrms, and it will tell you what packages you have on your system that are not free.@jasmus - Some people choose to live by the philosophy of only using free software, some don't. I personally want that option, but I don't want to be limited as to what software I can and cannot use, which is why I use Ubuntu.

A new version of _Debian_? I'm a relative novice when it comes to Linux (brief experiment with Ubuntu, and an EeePC) and even I know that's a fairly significant event. Doesn't Debian release a new version about as often as the Bible?

heh, I had no idea it was _that_ often! I guess I can start holding my breath again...

Try Linux Mint. It's basically Ubuntu but prettier and with things like Flash already installed. Or PCLinuxOS is also good for this.
