@magicjavaYou keep grasping at any straw that might validate your preconceived notions. An average CFL bulb contains 4 mg of mercury; there is more mercury in a standard thermometer than in 125 CFL bulbs. A power plant will emit 10mg of mercury to produce the electricity to run an incandescent bulb compared to only 2.4mg of mercury to run a CFL for the same time. So, even if no CFL bulbs are recycled, the mercury pollution is reduced by 36%.<a class="user" href="http://www.nema.org/lamprecycle/epafactsheet-cfl.pdf">http://www.nema.org/lamprecycle/epafactsheet-cfl.pdf</a>
Welcome to 21st Century Propaganda, we hope you enjoyed you stay and will be leaving shortly... If you don't stop corporations from putting 100,000 bottles of water at your grocery store all this crap on TV won't matter, and as usual it's a bunch of lies anyway. All this Malthusian "sacrifice" stuff is elitist nonsense, and the same corporate-media lying before is just lying again. If you really want to "save the environment" then do something useful: like stop them. The corporate media doesn't suddenly "care" about the "environment", and are ignoring the real problems of their parent companies continuing to destroy the planet. Meanwhile, talking heads like Al "Angry Man!" Gore tell us to scream "Denial!" at anyone who doesn't buy his movie while depleted uranium, mercury, fluoride and other toxins continue to poison us daily. Yeah, separating "paper from plastic" is going to keep the elite from killing us, and everybody suddenly talking about "global warming" isn't just a huge media-distraction from all the people waking up to how corrupt everyone we trusted has turned out to be. Sure, let's spend hours trying to buy the best "fridge" instead. (Sigh)They got a bunch of nice people to make an "AIDS Quilt" a few years ago, remember? It didn't cure AIDS. But, the Big Blankie was a nice'n'fluffy distraction that made people feel like they were doing something. A global taxing treaty written by the same people who are the biggest polluters won't solve any problems, and it will get us all used to paying taxes towards a centralized global body. They'll expand it by making us neurotic about more nonsense and adding more taxes, and they'll grow their global government over the next few years. If you think it's a stretch then you just don't know how it works, and if you think you have trouble fighting the "IRS", wait until local authorities come to collect taxes in Kansas on behalf of an office in Brussels. Think about it: who do you pay taxes to? Government. Think about it: who do you pay global taxes to? Global government. The sun's naturally getting hotter and melting other moons in the solar system, and scientist on the payroll are working with the corporate-media to sell us the apocalypse. A thousand years ago an astronomer might work with the king and priest to predict a naturally occuring "eclipse", scaring the crap out of people as it approached and getting them to "sacrifice" their goats, kids, SUV's and anything else to gain more money and power. Don't. Do. It. World War Three is brewing in the Persian Gulf... Focus. Peace, (NOW!!!)BKInfowars.com... PrisonPlanet.com... FreedomtoFascism.com... SaveTheInternet.com... RonPaul.org... The truth about global warming - it's the Sun that's to blameLondon Telegraph | July 20 2004Global warming has finally been explained: the Earth is getting hotter because the Sun is burning more brightly than at any time during the past 1,000 years, according to new research.A study by Swiss and German scientists suggests that increasing radiation from the sun is responsible for recent global climate changes.Dr Sami Solanki, the director of the renowned Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Gottingen, Germany, who led the research, said: "The Sun has been at its strongest over the past 60 years and may now be affecting global temperatures."The Sun is in a changed state. It is brighter than it was a few hundred years ago and this brightening started relatively recently - in the last 100 to 150 years."SOURCE FOR SURVIVAL - <a class="user" href="http://prisonplanet.tv/articles/july2004/200704suntoblame.htm">http://prisonplanet.tv/articles/july2004/200704suntoblame.htm</a>
Environmentalism is the replacement religion for all the ex-Christians who woke up one day and realized all that crap was just a fairy tale. Nonetheless the hunger for purpose in life goes on, and environmentalism mixed with a little good ole' fashioned Marxism is just the recipe.
If you ignore the hype and look at the data without any preconceived notions, you might find you agree with the climatologists. I'm not asking you to trust me on the global warming issue. I'm asking you to ignore the rhetoric and look at the data. "But they can't tell The Truth, or they'd be out of work" is one of the smelliest red herrings. Exxon can migrate away from fossil fuels just like Shell, et. al. are in the process of doing - whether the corporation will or not is another matter. Scientists aren't "afraid" of being proven wrong. No matter what the results, scientific understanding is advanced. The mere existence of corrupt individuals who are more interested in their immeadiate financial well-being rather than the advancement of science do not disprove the validated scientific theories. Concentrate on the data and stay away from ad hominem / verecundiam (appeal to authority) attacks.
@i70cudaThat is a marvelous & concise rebuttal of the theories of anthropogenic global warming."A self-appointed celebrity spokeperson used to be a hypocrite, therefore the science is invalid."Bravo!
@vikingcoder, we could argue whether it's a red herring or not if you want (it's clearly not, but I hope we don't have to debate it). The issue seems to be that some believe that non-climatologists are incapable of understanding historical data. This is insane. I suspect that EVERYONE who looks at the available data who has minimal mathematical skills will come to the conclusion that Man is woefully insignificant in the grand scale of global climate. Some may not agree! I'm just asking that people research this before they wager people's lives on the idea.Yeah, I said 'lives'. Every dollar spent on this global warming idea is a dollar NOT spent saving starving people. Sick people. Dying people. I'm not ok with that. Do some research. I hope you will agree with me."The mere existence of corrupt individuals who are more interested in their immeadiate financial well-being rather than the advancement of science do not disprove the validated scientific theories."This is true. But we are not talking about 'validated' theories. We are talking about Man Made Global Warming (PBUH). It's not validated. It's just hyped.
Hey, there was a site with like.. "1,000 acres of forests absorbs as much co2 as a coal power plant puts out in 7 days" or something like that.. depressing statistics.. anyone have the link? please please thanks bye
I think car manufacture and why its done has a lot to do with global warming, every company that produces something to have a negative global effect should be responsible for there actions. as we pay for the things, work to get them, i know they have tried new ways to combat global warming. i just dont think there actions are good enough after all the technology is out there just that they are to scared to use it as they might lose money, whats money just metal or paper with a face on it. not much good when its too late and everyone dies. will people say god save the queen then i wonder? Just my opinion lol
I think that is a great idea. We shouldn't stop with china. We should talk to as many countries as we can. America is not the only producer of C02, just the biggest. Before we talk to other countries i think all american needs to kick it with recycling and going green. We need to set a good example for every other country!
Thats very important information is in this story. In today's world global warming is big serious problem. The global warming occurs due to rise in the temperature around the earths atmosphere. There are lots of reasons for Global Warming. Humans are the main responsible to worsen the Earth condition. We can do some efforts to stop global warming. Like use solar system appliances. Plant trees as much as possible. Use electricity very carefully, switch off the lights when not in the home. these will save energy which is require for preparation of food. Unplug your appliances. Many times things such as a cellphone charger, TV, and laptop cord still use power even when the main object is shut off. http://www.globalwarming360.net/ways-to-stop-global-warming.html

@muchachoburachoWrong on both points. Methane is 24.5x (2350% not 20%) more effective as a GHG than CO2. However, global (anthropogenic & natural) methane emissions have a CO2 equivalent less than half of Humanity's annual CO2 emissions.Current total methane sources total ~450-500 Tg, being primarily (~70%) anthropogenic.Landfills rank 5th (out of 7) in terms of anthropogenic methane producers with ~25 Tg / year.500 Tg methane * 24.5x CO2 = 12,250 Tg CO2 equivalentHumanity emitted 27,000 Tg of CO2 in 2004 - over twice the CO2 equivalent of all methane sources and 44x that of landfills.<a class="user" href="http://icp.giss.nasa.gov/education/methane/intro/cycle.html">http://icp.giss.nasa.gov/education/methane/intro/cycle.html</a><a class="user" href="http://www.eia.doe.gov/iea/carbon.html">http://www.eia.doe.gov/iea/carbon.html</a> (Table H.1co2)=><a class="user" href="http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/international/iealf/tableh1co2.xls">http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/international/iealf/tableh1co2.xls</a>

Actually, wild fluctuations occur in a matter of decades, freezing and thawing the northern hemisphere quickly, not over millenia.
