blogstorm.co.uk — Tracking the number of times a particular blog hits the Digg homepage isn't really a great indicator of popularity. Some Digg stories get a couple of hundred Diggs while others are far more popular and attract several thousand.

You haven't read "In Defense of Internment", have you, davidwasman? You're a textbook case of the "angry liberal".

I think the current leftward lean of digg, taken as a whole, is due to many factors. One big reason is that a Republican happens to be in the White House at the moment and another reason is the Bush administration and its absurd behavior itself. Bush does not have much popular support in the general population and its not surprising to see that represented here as well. Now I must tread carefully here but it may also be that most diggers share certain values that are intrinsic to the on-line community that is digg or intrinsic to the functioning of the internet itself and it is the case that this value set is threatened by some of the current rhetoric coming from the right.I think that it is perfectly fine to submit stories that are tilted in one direction or another and that we as a community of individuals will continue to draw and redraw the line that separates journalism from blogspam with our digg and bury buttons. Having been digging for a while now and I and many others have come to realize that no singular source can be trusted to tell the objective truth. There are always facts that are sometimes proven or disproven but the vast majority of articles are painted in quite broad strokes that are difficult to substantiate or refute flat out (however, they do make for good dialog). Luckily, we do have a large number of sources to draw upon here and I think a reasonably informed perspective (certainly better than one fed by TV) can be accomplished with an open but critical mind.Seeing as how the legitimacy of my take on the world is dependent on the variety of viewpoints I have access to, I often wonder what happened to littlegreenfootballs. Is the bury brigade that impregnable or has lgf actually been banned from digg. I hated that blog with a passion (mostly because of the insulting and often hateful commenters that followed its stories around) but it did a good job of putting certain issues into perspective.I also wonder what will happen to crooksandliars and thinkprogress after Bush leaves office. If it does turn out they are nothing more than partisan hacks and unable to properly criticize a Democratic leader, new blogs will have to be found to satisfy many digger's justified suspicion of our government as a whole. If values of the digg community or the values of internet users for some reason do not tolerate propper criticism of the left it will be a sad turn of events for me and my ISP but good for a few things that need to get done around the house.I am very much more aware of what is going on in US federal government because of the harsh criticism of the Bush administration and I for one am looking forward to exposing any potential Democratic candidate as the lying, party before nation, politician I'm sure they are. If such criticism does come about, I hope it causes many on the right that have become so hyper-defensive of conservatism to let their guard down a bit and open up to more productive dialog.I truly believe that generations of television viewership has done our democracy a huge disservice and that the internet and its fundamentally different form of information sharing holds the potential of reawakening a truly civic mind of the citizenry that has laid dormant for far to long.

Dear opiophile, I'm going to repost what I just posted higher in the thread (which I know is comment abuse) in the hopes that you read it. I spent some time and thought on it. I really wish you would do the same. Well, it does assume that you do understand the nature of digg that you do not seem to grasp but whatever it is worth a shot.I think the current leftward lean of digg, taken as a whole, is due to many factors.
