While there is a lot of autotune in probably every one of these songs, the jagged pitch shifts that most of us think are autotune are done with a vocoder. That's where you say/sing your words through the mic and use a keyboard to decide exactly what pitch it should be. Black Eyed Peas and Kanye West are the most frequent offenders, in my book.
Life would have been better with a whole lot less Black Eyed Peas. Unfortunately in college, this crap is ingrained in my mind every time I go to a party.

Indeed. But people need to learn to tell the difference between autotune and vocoders. There's a huge difference, and people always get it wrong.
