Applying this list to Mac users:1) Backup her files - Backup 3.1 comes with .mac2) Picasa – comes w/ iPhoto, FAR better3) LCD - iMac came with a 20" LCD4) Speakers – Came w/ Harmon Kardon speakers5) Firefox - While I use firefox, no reason to switch her from Safari (now IE on the hand... great idea to switch to FF)6) Evernote? I don't see the benefit, no first hand experience, could be cool....7) Update AntiVirus and Spyware tools... ummm.... Mac, no needed ;)8) Skype? Screw VoIP... It's so 2 years ago... We use iChatAV (comes w/ every Mac). Cristal-clear two-way Audio/Video in H.264 format. We can even multipoint in the Grandparents. She sees the kids several times a week. Amazing!9) System Check software – not needed10) Get her a real email address... OK, I like this one.
scorwitz - use picasa to backup all images you know you want to a dvd. Back up rest of images to different dvd. Delete all. Reload picasa images. Save other disk in case you missed something.on topic - not a bad list, but buying your mom an LCD screen and computer speakers is a little different category than backing up her files and updating virus software.
