The customer is NOT always right, you can just get away with being wrong depending on the industry and usage of the design. I'm a packaging designer and I have plenty of clients who are wrong in what they want. They want pop-out headers and panels that come from nowhere that would ultimately allow their product (and fancy package) to be destroyed in shipping. I'm sure there are people who want their living rooms designed a certain way, but if the designer allowed them to have their way, the ceiling would fall on them in 6 months. The customer CAN be wrong and it's the responsibility of the designer to let them know when they are.
It ain't luck. It's called networking. #1 USER CENTRIC DESIGN (get input from your audience EARLY).#11. Being pretentious is stupid and isn't allowed because you have talent.
