On the flipside I think Twitter is great because of this feature. It cuts out all the time consuming crap from Facebook. Friends and sharing short 140 characters for a few minutes a day arent mutually exclusive. Twitter is an effective networking tool for socializing if anything. That's where the 140 character limit comes from, because a lot use it from their mobiles instead of sitting in front of Facebook on their computer. You can send a message saying "I'm in the city, anyone want to meet up" rather than standing on your own with an elitist smug grin which a lot of ignorant fools in this Digg thread seem to have. But don't let me stop your "I dont use it so I'll trash it" mentality.

Option 1: Use TwitterOption 2: Go out into the real world to find/spend time with real life friends.Don't know about you, I tend to select option 2. Even if most of it's only in my imagination.

Oh no, I disagree. I have landed 2 new clients and 2 good vendors in the past month just by conversing with them based on interesting tweets they've posted. I usually search on key terms that interest me the most, and I learn a ton from experts in my industry.
