My 2cents: Always keep your board software as updated as you possibly can, and run backups all the damn time. Hackers/skiddies lovvvve forums and it's easy to get into most of them via hash perl scripts.
my first hand experience(got 1 forum, which is going pretty well)1. Your forum should provide the visitor what no other forum provides, if a forum is already there on that theme, try to get its strong points and add as much as u can to give the user a better experience.2. Have patience, forum takes a long time to get going.3. Answer 2 most important question?? a. Y would a person come backb. Y should he/she recommend to her frds.4. Reward ppl who have been there since it early dayz, make them moderator or mayb gifts n all if u can afford.5. Take Continous feedback from regular visitors is very important, it makes them feel they are part of it, and the forum owner really cares for them.6. SEO softwares are very very important.Lots more... ( wil share it people think above points made sense, otherwise its no point talkin :P)
*sigh* as I said earlier, our forum was never intended to be a DISCUSSION board. It's just a support forum so that users of our ranking software can get answers and support. Yes we have a little General Chat on there, but if you just look at the forum categories you will see that this is a support forum and not a discussion forum.

... His forum only has 75 total posts in 24 threads. Take it with a grain of salt. See for your self, then we can all laugh at it.<a class="user" href="http://www.forumrank.net/forums/">http://www.forumrank.net/forums/</a>

How do you expect anyone to take you seriously when you can't even communicate clearly.
