uncommonbody.blogspot.com — So you have decided to lose weight. Almost all of us go through it at one point or another. But, with so many different diets, pills, advice and information, how do you go about it without going crazy? Here are some tips that worked for me and some others.

This article is a load of s**t, and I sincerely hope anyone who needs to lose weight doesn't bother with it. People don't lose weight by following some hippie's feel-good regiment of hugs and being ok with indulging. I take my hats off to the people that make a commitment to do it, but every success story will tell you it took work; not lying to yourself that you're gaining muscle.

I really like the philosophy behind the Hacker's Diet. It's so obvious, but yet true. A good read, imho.[And yes, daily weighing combined with keeping track of that and charting your trendlines is really useful]

I agree with foobar5892...1. Eat less (and better)2. Exercise consistentlyBut I would add:3. Drink so much water that you have to pee all day long.Every "diet secret" is just a modification of these rules. Diet fads are just that...fads. These are the only things that ALWAYS work.

While there's plenty of good advice for losing weight around here, is there any for -gaining- weight? I'm so underweight and I'm actually beginning to lose body mass again. :oFor the record, I'm 5'6.5" and about 115-120lbs.

TIP 1: EAT LESS.What's wrong with people that they want to lose weight but not change their lifestyle? It's very simple... the less food that goes into your body means less weight you put on. Just change your diet and put down that liter of soda and side of fries.

I lost 90 pounds, kept it off for 3 years and eventually put it back on (damn you fast food!). Here's how I did it:1) First thing in the morning, after you take a leak, weigh yourself in your boxers. Yes you will weigh more or less every day, but the important thing is to notice trends.2) Count calories. I restricted myself to 1800-2000 calories a day. This is easy. 600 calories PER meal, and an additional 200 for a snack or a soda. The 600 calories per meal was the important one. This way you can look at what you're doing, and do tradeoffs. Would you rather eat that can of raviolli (600 calories), or have 2 or 3 sandwhiches (100 calories for bread, 50-100 for meat, 0 for mustard, 20 for low fat mayonaise). Do you really want to spend 100 calories on that slice of cheese? It's all about tradeoffs and knowing what you're eating.I stayed away from fast food and restaurants like the plague, mostly because I had no idea how many calories I was consuming. Thanksgiving was eventually my demise, eating as much as I wanted, i stopped counting calories after this, and put my weight back on. It's best to eat low calorie items that make you full, than high calorie items that are small, and don't. I didn't do any excersize, and drank LOTS of water. When I was really hungry between meals, I made a FULL plate of salad with light ranch dressing, crackers crumbled on top, and some grated cheese. (parmasean). Very tasty.

I can testify for the water tip, when I drink to Nalgine (64 oz) of water a day for about a week my weight will go down. If I eat just a little less but drink a lot of water I loose weight.

While calories are important of course, just cutting calories won't always result in weight loss. The types of foods also play a part. Stick to natural!
