I am completely convinced that the JRT is one of the smartest dog breeds, but they are conspicuously absent from every one of these "smartest dog" lists. I have a feeling they are just overlooked, although I am not sure why. If you read the Border Collie description, it can apply just as well to a JRT.
I don't think cats are really "all there." You can see behind a dogs eyes and see it trying to comprehend what you're saying. You're lucky if a cat even acknowledges your presence :-/That being said, I love both animals, but for different reasons.
Our dog was a pound puppy, so we aren't completely sure of her breed, but we are confident she's either a malti-poo or some kind of poodle/terrier mix. She is amazingly smart--we've taught her "The Grand Old Duke of York", and she does all of the proper "ups" and "downs".
I must agree with the Golden Retriever, ours is so intelligent and just loves to learn. They are excellent dogs - love all people and are obedient and loyal.

I have an ACD/shepherd mix. She's the smartest dog I've ever had.
