livescience.com — There's a chill in the air, and it's not just the weather or the frosty attitudes between the presidential candidates. It's the chill of scary Halloween movies. Here are ten of the scariest movies ever. There's nothing necessarily wrong with gore and splatter, but films such as these deliver genuine chills and are best watched with the lights on.

Quite different, Jacob's Ladder was the main inspiration for the Silent Hill games, it's what the Silent Hill movie should have been.

...because they are lists of the scariest movies ever? I didn't assume they are lists of the scariest movies everyone has seen thirty times.

Oh, no doubt The Strangers is a good movie. Psychological thriller would be a better genre for it, however. I'm part of a Horror/Scare/Thriller movie review club and The Strangers was put up for viewing and was received well by everyone. The unfortunate part of the movie is that the build-up was so great but the climax was so disappointing that if it had been a hooker I'd have made her pay me.I'm more of a supernatural horror guy, I suppose. The gorefest of Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Saw, Hostel, etc. are good for one go-round before they are bastardized with sequels. If I were to suggest a more current movie, rather than any of the older horror flicks, it'd probably be Janghwa, Hongryeon. The East hands down bests Western horror.
